I have enrolled in the course The Future of Education (UCL), because I like to get my ideas moving listening to other´s ideas. I live and work in Argentina, I am a School Psychologist and I usually aid schools to get their kids to learn better. Nowadays we are beginning to work in project based learning with one school and, for do the mentoring and coaching job I have decided to enroll in an online course to promote my forward thinking. Watching the first week videos sure did promoted it, it is good to shake ideas from time to time. I enjoyed reading Delors´ report, inspired by Professor Hargreaves video, and reading it made me search in my library an old Howard Gardner book, “The Unschooled Mind”(1991). I read my notes in that nowadays yellow page book, and started to complete them in a 2019 mode. That was really emotional because at that time, I was just 20, I was a graduate student and my questions were right there beside the underlined paragraphs. Looking to my thinking at 20 and thinking at 46 gave me shaking chills. Gardner mention that schools has constrains, every school has constraints, some of them are universal and some of them are “specific to certain times, locales and or populations”. So I made a list of the constraints I think the school where we are beginning to work with PBL has (in my point of view), and sent an email to one of the teachers whom I got a close relationship and use to reflect, to ask her what constraints does she think the school has in order to set PBL in the classroom. It is exiting to link the course with previous readings to further readings to people I work with. I can feel my thinking boiling. In regards of the future of Education is really hard for me to think about it in Argentina. We live in a country when Education is not always the first concern, and I think it should be. Reading Delors´ report made me download a Dewey book, “Schools of Tomorrow”, and I sadly read that he was thinking about student centered learning in 1913. I have to lecture about student centered learning in 15 days and I am reading a lot preparing my slides, I have read about feedback and visible learning, I have run into the learning pit and the work of James Nottingham, I have re-read pages of Carol´s Dweck books about growth mindset and Dewey is somehow the glue for all of them. Of course I have read Dewey´s work before, but that´s the magic of learning, 2 books, The Unschooled Mind and Schools of Tomorrow are different books every time I read them. So, I think thinking is just a living being, a strong source for life and happiness, a glue for learning and understanding and a water shed for questions.
